Two-pass workflow to bridge writing and editing

I keep my “writer brain” and “editor brain” separate with a two-pass template in Notion: day 1 is a messy draft, day 2 is an edit pass focused on verbs and cuts… Does anyone have a scene-level checklist or template that bridges drafting and editing well?

I use a one-line scene header right after the draft: “Turn — what changes from A to B, and if I cut this, what breaks?” Then my edit pass just sharpens language to make that turn undeniable; if that feels too rigid, I only keep the turn line — want a tiny Notion block for it?

That two-day structure sounds effective! Have you thought about using prompts for each pass? They could help clarify your focus on verbs. :memo:.

I’ve found that annotating my drafts with notes on the emotional beats really helps when I edit. It’ll guide my language choices and keep the focus on the impact of each scene. Have you tried anything similar to that, @ryafost?
